what's the difference ...
Have you ever wondered what the difference was between things?
I've always had problems figuring out/keeping straight the difference between United Kingdom Great Brittian England, I get (or at least I hope I do) (I'm sick - so if there are any typos/spelling errors sorry) |

Re: what's the difference ...
Hope you get better soon. Just asked DH who was born and grew up in England, this is how he understands it:
GB = Wales, England, Cornwall & Northern Ireland. UK includes all of Scotland and Ireland. England, Scotland, & Ireland all have their own government. Wales and Cornwall are included under the umbrella of the British parliament. (Hence GB). Hopefully Lizzie will be along to clarify. Here you go: (I didn't really understand this, not enough pictures) ![]() http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parliam...United_Kingdom Last edited by Mrs X; April 13th, 2013 at 03:42 PM. Reason: add link |

It's amazing to me, how little our country is compared to say, Russia, or Africa, and yet we are so "mighty". Good topic. |

Re: what's the difference ...
Though geographically a single island, Ireland is divided into two separate political countries: the Republic of Ireland, which is an entirely separate nation from the United Kingdom, and Northern Ireland, which is a part of the UK.
Dublin where I live is in the republic or often called Southern Ireland to distinguish the border of North and South# Last edited by Lizzie; April 15th, 2013 at 11:46 AM. |

Re: what's the difference ...
Cornwall is part of England! I love it down there!
Cornwall is a county, like Devon, Essex, North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, Lancashire, Derbyshire. There is lots of confusion, I think it's because how the country has been divided up over the years by the various monarchies and councils have merged and separated.
