Best way to drink soda

This is a silly thread,

What is the best way to drink soda (in your opinion) and why.

Ex: fountain, plastic bottle, etc

Re: Best way to drink soda

I think canned soda is the best. It seems to be colder to me and better mixed than fountain drinks.

Re: Best way to drink soda

I prefer fountain sodas, and then Mexican Coke with a paper straw.

Re: Best way to drink soda

Hmmm. Well, it's best not to drink sodas at all but if you're willing to include a large iced tea in the category I'll play.

It's not at all eco-friendly (and I usually try to be) but my guilty pleasure favorite iced tea comes in a large Styrofoam cup with nugget ice and a plastic straw. My second choice is a large plastic cup (which I reuse and then recycle) with half cubes of ice and a plastic straw. I actually try and skip the straw, but most of the times I'm indulging in these I'm driving and need a lid.

The way I usually drink my iced tea is I buy a gallon from the place that sells my favorite tea to keep in the fridge at home, then fill up a reusable stainless steel cup with a plastic straw.

Re: Best way to drink soda

Fountain drinks definitely "need" a straw

Re: Best way to drink soda

Really? Why's that?

My kids drink fountain drinks without a straw if we're at a restaurant. Not so if we're in the car. I wish I had not used straws throughout most of my life, because I definitely have the lines indicating it around my mouth.

Re: Best way to drink soda

I don't like the feel of soda on my skin - I can wipe, but I just don't like the feel.

Re: Best way to drink soda

I love my diet soda. I have read all the bad publicity about soda and claims diet soda is worse for you than soda with sugar. I don't believe anybody "needs" soda and I'm certainly not claiming it is healthy.

But I will say that I am 60 years old, have maintained an 80 lb weight loss for MANY many years now, and I drink this stuff just about every day. It does not make me crave sweets or overeat. And because it has no calories, it, itself cannot make you gain weight (contrary to what some will claim or believe). I do believe that there may be a psychological effect for some, justifying because they had diet soda than can indulge on other things and that sort of thinking will indirectly lead to weight gain. Or the sweet taste may trigger cravings of other sweets for some. That also would be an indirect lead to weight gain.

But to answer the question, I definitely agree with you Snafu, it seems colder and better in cans! You are the first person I have heard bring this up but I have mentioned it to my husband many times. If a choice between a plastic bottle and a can, I'd choose the can. I don't understand why this would be when they are both refrigerated at the same temps, the drink in the can seems colder and tastes better. I have a scientific mind and so this phenomena fascinates me but now that at least one other person has noticed this, I know I'm not imagining it!

If I drink from a can, I rarely use a straw. If I drink a fountain drink from a glass, I prefer a straw.
