Re: Letting go ... DS & me

- they had open house at HS last week ... I wanted to go with DS & meet his teachers .... we walked to school & on the way there DS told me he wanted to go on his own - so (being a good mom & letting go), once we got to the school I continued walking to a book store about a block further away.

... but .... DS didn't turn off for the school - he waited for me ( didn't want to go with or without me*), and when I passed him, he just stood there. As he didn't ask me to come with him, I kept going . He eventually went.

*teen angst is gonna give me a lot of gray hair as I'm not a mind reader

Re: Letting go ... DS & me

I think most teenage boys have stuff in their heads, they just CAN'T make it come out of their mouths. Even with the older ones, i've found you just keep having to ask them questions until you get the answers you need.

Teen aged girls, now that can be a different story.

Teenage angst is a challenge, but it's somewhat amusing when you recognize it.

Re: Letting go ... DS & me

I'm letting/encouraging DS to make decisions for himself ... and letting him go on school trips without me (:O)

its soooo hard but I want him to have a "healthy family" out look, not play "happy family"

momma needs hugs, even though I'm certain I'm doing the right thing

Re: Letting go ... DS & me

Give him instruction on how to find and get a job, and then a deadline.

Re: Letting go ... DS & me

When there are things DS needs to do (set up checking account, etc) I've been telling him he can do it on his own, unless he wants me there (but I promised to keep my mouth shut unless he asks for my input )

Some things he chooses to do on his own, others he's said he'd want me there.

Re: Letting go ... DS & me

Mission accomplished, he's also agreed that following what was taught in personal finance class was a good idea (30% in savingings) so he's hoping to set that up direct deposit when his job starts.
