Pressure to be generous?
My workplace does a giving tree managed by VIPs. They like to be very generous and so they have a quota and expect/demand donations from the employees to meet those quotas.
We decided as a family that we would donate cash to the local food pantry this year because food and heat are needs; toys are wants. But now I'm feeling very pressured to supply expensive toys at work. Do I give in to the expectations to maintain a good relationship with the VIP? Or stick to my family agreement? Have you ever had an experience with other people being generous with your money? |

Re: Pressure to be generous?
I've not been pressured to donate (by people I know-by solicitations - oh yeah - some didn't want to take no for an answer)
I don't know Lucy - being "forced" would leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Re: Pressure to be generous?
I would stick to the family agreement, because as you've said food and heat are needs.

Re: Pressure to be generous?
I do work in a location that values those political connections, so I felt obligated to participate. Normally, I wouldn't give in to the pressure. However, I think I found the win/win. I looked at the list and we are buying *necessities* for some older children. The balance will go to the original food pantry.
