empty nest
How does anyone here feel about having an "empty nest"
Strangely, I'm looking forward to having more "us" time with DH, rather than trying to juggle things ... I will miss DS when he moves out (DH can retire when DS graduates High School) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: empty nest
as in everything else in life, it does take a while to adjust. It is a hard time, very hard for me, b/c the house became so darn quiet. Our home was the home that all the kids came to. You just have to look for other things to keep yourself busy....and then after a while, it becomes part of your routine...
What you must keep in mind, is, never make your children your whole purpose in life, and quickly find other things to keep yourself busy, classes, friends, doing things that you always wanted to do, but were to busy to. Hugs.... |

Re: empty nest
I am having a hard time. More "us" time would be great, but I miss having children to play with.

Re: empty nest
The one thing I have to 'fess up to looking forward to is the food. DH and I like foods that my kids don't, so I can get back to cooking meals that *I* like versus meals that everyone will eat.

Re: empty nest
I have hit empty nest hard (says the wailing banshee)
My first X-mas since my mom passed My DS's last X-mas before he graduates college & he plans to go to his dad's/my ex's for Christmas - he's working an unpaid internship for the University and I don't know when he'll be home (great job experience - he was told at a career fair to apply for openings due to this experience)

Re: empty nest
This transition is really hard for women, snafu. What are you doing to help with the adjustment? Your advice would be very helpful. My youngest is off to college next year and I need to prepare.

Re: empty nest
I was fine with DS going away to college - its the fact he's graduating and will never "live at home" again
Is there anything you really want to learn but have never had time? I'm going to try to sign up for a foreign language class, I also want to sign up for quilting classes this summer. How long until you retire?

Re: empty nest
a friend of DS's moved here from out of state (his family is far away)
I'm trying (but sometimes failing) not to "mother" him - sigh I just keep reminding myself he IS NOT my emotional support
