A bird funeral

DD's bird died yesterday. She found him sick and stayed with him as he died. She went to school dressed all in black. We waited for her to come home for the funeral. I found a nice box and a lovely prayer to give her comfort.

When she came home from school, we went to the "pet cemetery" under the trees in our yard. DH got the shovel to dig the hole, picked a good spot, and DING! He had a flagstone marking a grave. He said, "There's the cat." . He picked another spot, dug the shovel into the earth, and DING! He hit another flagstone. This happened a third time, when he finally located the cat. We were all laughing when he finally found a spot without a critter buried there.

DD's bird will have lots of company. But I think our cemetery is full.

we did that with pet mice when we were kids

Re: A bird funeral

The bird gets the last laugh though, having outlived some cats.
