Re: What's up with this?

Update. DN was arrested. He stole a car, got into an accident, and left the scene because he was drinking. He doesn't have a license. He isn't 16, yet.

Re: What's up with this?

I wonder how he feels about what he did?

Definitely a troubled kid.

Re: What's up with this?

Nothing has really changed for this child. He's in a locked-down school but they let him out to play football.

But, there's another nephew. This one is the son of my deceased StepSis. His DF threw him out as soon as he turned 18. Long story but basically dad is a screw up who moves from lover to lover and never wanted his children. Right now the kid is homeless and is bunking with various friends. His DSis had taken him in but he can't stay with her because it's all girls in their apartment.

We're talking about taking him in until he finishes school and gets on his feet. The world is full of unwanted children. It's so sad that I have to be related to some of them.

(((Lucy))) I hope even if you don't actually take him in, knowing he has someone who cares helps make a positive difference in his life.

Re: What's up with this?

((((Lucy)))) How long would it take for him to finish school? Do you think, being 18 and somewhat self-sufficient at the moment, that he'd adjust well to "house rules"?

He has about a year to finish up. I don't know how he would do with house rules. He has never had a functional family. By the time he was 5, he was caring for his mother, half-living at friend's home, and being cared for by his DSis when he was home. Then his DM died.

If we did this, house rules would have to be understood and agreed to at the beginning. I'd also have to respect that he is an autonomous adult who just needs a stable place to stay until he can finish his education and be independent. Balancing that will be hard. We'd have to do some repairs to a spare room and bathroom so he'd have his own space.

Right now I'm waiting on DH to decide if this is the right thing to do or not.
