What is a "false sense of well being"???
So, I've had a few health issues the last 15 years, all of which carry similar symptoms:
Headaches, sever fatigue, dry skin, aches, weight gain, cold intolerance, brain fog, depression... I just started a new med, and one of the side effects is a "false sense of well being." What is THAT? And how will I know it when I see it? And why wouldn't I want to feel it? After all those above symptoms, aren't I entitled to a sense of well being, even if it's false? hehe |

Thanks, snafu. I'm actually doing well. I just thought that was a weird symptom, and I still don't know what it means! hehe

Re: What is a "false sense of well being"???
Well, first of all I hope you're doing better!
Secondly I was puzzled by this "side effect" so I had to google and this is what someone wrote: "I can only think that this means that it impairs judgement when it comes to the ability to determine [aspects of] your own health. People with specific neurological damage have been known to fail to acknowledge things like paralyzed limbs and other obvious ailments. When the obvious is pointed out, they deny everything and make up implausible excuses. My guess is that sometimes the medication causes similar mental blind-spots." OR, it may give you a sense of wellness or feeling very good, when in fact, you aren't tat far along in your healing or recovery yet. It makes you feel better than you actually are. Wow! I hope it can get you to the point where your well-feeling and your health well-ness are both VERY GOOD! |

Re: What is a "false sense of well being"???
I'd agree with PeeWee.
I guess it could be like taking pain relief for a bad back. The pain goes and therefore you do physical things, forgetting that the cause of the pain is still there regardless of whether you feel the pain. Then you don't realise when you've psuhed yourself and possibly done further damage. Same could apply to emotional or mental well being too.

Re: What is a "false sense of well being"???
Thanks, PeeWeeMomOf3 and Annsdil!
I'm taking thyroid meds for hypothyroidism. I was really hoping for that "false sense of well being," or even just some energy! I'm just tired. Another week and they'll do a blood test to see if the meds are working. We'll see. ![]() |

Re: What is a "false sense of well being"???
I got a "honeymoon" period for a couple of weeks taking Levythroxine. I was overjoyed that my symptoms were subsiding. After that things returned to my hypothyroid "normal".

Re: What is a "false sense of well being"???
I'm jealous! I want a "honeymoon period!" Instead, I feel more tired and have chronic stomach issues. I didn't feel bad before we started treatment.
How are you doing now, Anns? |

Re: What is a "false sense of well being"???
I'm doing okay, snafu. My stomach got used to the meds. I am still waiting for that "false sense of well being," but no stomach upset will do!
