Age when leaving home?

A recent/new study/survey by Eurostat has found that Irish people are staying at home with their parents until they are 25 years old,
men - 26 and a half and women just under 25.
and in Scandinavian countries children are barely out of their teens when they leave home.
The Being Young in Europe survey also reveals that Ireland has the youngest population in Europe with a million people, or just over a fifth of the population, under the age of 15.

I was 23 when I left home.

I think the variations in the ages are based on a few things: finances, comfort/convenience of living at home, and emotional/social readiness to be independent.

Children should leave home when they are financially, and socially/emotionally able to do so.

I left home for college when I was 17. I lived four years in a dorm, then when I was 21 got my first apartment. My parents continued to pay my bills (I was in graduate school - I worked to earn money for personal expenses starting when I was 16) until I was 23 and got my first full-time job.

I agree with Lucy - kids should leave home when they are ready, willing, and able.

I was 18 when I left home after finishing school. I have 2 sons, Im prepared for them to be at home while completing studies, they are only 14 and 10 at the moment, but I want them to do tertiary studies either at University or tech after 18. They can live at home while studying if they remain well behaved and will have to get part time jobs as well. I have one who wants to enter the police at 18 so fingers crossed. There will be no girlfriends staying here I have decided, because if they want to play house and live with a partner, they can get their own place.

I've got out of my parents' house a year after started working and then lived with my husband.
